The CDT Cloud SIG is driving an ecosystem of open source technologies for building C/C++ tools.
The CDT Cloud Special Interest Group (SIG) is an open collaboration of embedded vendors and service providers, with the goal of strengthening the open source ecosystem for building web- and cloud-based tools used for C/C++ development and embedded development. It is hosted at the Eclipse Foundation as part of the Eclipse Cloud Developer Tools Working Group. Current members of the group include Arm, EclipseSource, Ericsson, Renesas, STMicroelectronics, and AMD. Take a look at this article about the embedded SIG for more details.
The CDT Cloud SIG is working on a number of successful initiatives, including the creation of CDT Cloud. CDT Cloud is an umbrella project hosting open source components for building custom web-based C/C++ tools such as Trace Compass Cloud an the CDT Cloud Amalgamator. With CDT Cloud Blueprint, the project provides a ready-to-be-used template tool (see screenshot below). Please visit the CDT Cloud website for more information about the sub components and initiatives of the CDT Cloud SIG
"In our customer projects around the globe, we can observe an increasing demand for web-based and cloud-based tooling….We believe the Eclipse ecosystem is on a very strong path to take and hold the same dominating position for tool building it has on the desktop also for web-based tools in the upcoming decade."
Dr. Jonas Helming
General Manager at EclipseSource
"Developer tools are critical in accelerating adoption of new technology and enabling enterprise developers in the modernization journey to the cloud. Working at Eclipse will expand tools communities for containerized applications on Kubernetes and offer developers the tools needed for cloud-based scenarios. Developers will benefit, as will our customers."
Danny Mace
Vice President, Hybrid Cloud App Platform at IBM
"Developers today are building applications for the hybrid cloud. They are focused on the speed of collaboration and development in order to out-flank their competitors. Red Hat is working with ECD Tools to provide new open source alternatives to these technology stacks while giving developers the tools they need to get their software to market faster."
Brad Micklea
VP of Developer Tools and Advocacy at Red Hat
"As a strategic member of the Eclipse Foundation, SAP actively participates in the Eclipse Che, Dirigible,Theia, and Orion projects. The ECD Tools Working Group increases the synergy between all relevant parties by creating shared concepts and standards, and fosters further collaboration in an open environment."
Michael Wintergerst
Senior Vice President, head of SAP Cloud Platform Core at SAP
"At TypeFox, we build software tools and IDEs for experts. Moving our projects under the umbrella of the Eclipse Foundation has allowed other big players to join in a common endeavor to build the solid foundation for the next generation of web-based tools. The ECD Tools Working Group stands for the commitment to keep these frameworks industrial strength, truly open-source and vendor neutral."
Dr. Jan Köhnlein
Co-founder at TypeFox
